Just a week before the release of Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited film Emergency, the filmmaker-turned-politician has found herself in a lot of controversies. From certain Sikh community organisations asking for a ban on the films to people digging out her controvesial statements against the Punjabis and Sikhs. Amidst it all, the actress has expressed her desire to invite the Gandhi family to the special screening of her film as it is based on the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.

When asked if she plans on inviting the well-known family to the film’s screening, Kangana told the news agency IANS that she would “love” to. However, she added that she knows that they might not accept her invitation as they have a “lot of bitterness, especially for me.” For those who don’t know, the film is based on a 21-month Emergency period India faced from 1975 to 1977 when Gandhi declared a state of emergency across the country by citing internal and external threats to the country. 

The 38-year-old actress went on to add, “I have already received so many notices from the Supreme Court about my comments on their comments… I am also a parliamentarian. I am also supposed to comment about their comments but they have objections with that also.” Ranaut also shared how she hopes that the family watched the film and judges it “objectively.” “I hope if not for my screening, they see the film and judge it very objectively, they enjoy the film and I am sure they have kind words to say if they want to. Lets see,” she concluded.


On the work front, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in Tejas. The movie failed to impress the audience as well as the critics and it tanked at the box office. She will be next seen in Emergency. Not only is the movie her first solo directorial, but she will also be essaying the role of India’s late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film is all set to be released on September 6, 2024. Apart from that, she also has a few other projects in her pipeline.
